Sick of Lance

I am sick and tired of Lance Armstrong! Cycling is NOT an athletic activity. Athletics involves good eye-hand coordination, quick reflexes, etc. Not everyone is an athlete or is athletic. Anyone can ride a bike; therefore cycling is not an athletic activity. This point was drawn to my attention while watching several "experts" on ESPN discussing this very topic. Cycling is a fun activity and can be a good cardiovascular activity, but do not confuse it with athletics. An athlete may be a cyclist, but just because you are a cyclist does not make you an athlete. Getting back to Lance, as soon as this American who participates in a European sport retires the tiny interest in cycling in the US will die a quick and painless death.

You need to define athletics better; with your reasoning:

-Anyone can swing a bat at a ball, therefore baseball is not an athletic activity.

-Anyone an swing a stick at a puck, therefore hockey is not an athletic activity.

You say "Athletics involves good eye-hand coordination, quick reflexes, etc."

With that argument, tight-rope walking, trapeze swinging, clay shooting, etc. are all athletic activities.

And what's this: "Cycling is NOT an athletic activity" and then "...just because you are a cyclist does not make you an athlete."

Dude, were you even awake when you posted this? LOL

Now if Lance were to have won the World Kjnipsbrat Championships for seven consecutive years, then I'd really be impressed because that is a *real* sport. But of course, not everyone is cut out for the grueling world of competition kjnipsbrat, so they just have to do whatever activities they can manage. Simple things... like cycling for instance.

Dear Anonymous (aka Elgie), it takes no athletic ability to swing a bat or hockey stick, but it does take athletic ability to HIT the ball or puck and make it do what you want it to do. An 85 year old or uber nerd can ride a bicycle, and they are not athletes.

So you concede that tight-rope walking, trapeze swinging, and clay shooting are athletic events? (and for that matter bowling?)

you are all idiots. Except the first guy (actually just the blog owner and "d"). How can you ride a bike without good hand to eye co-ordination? Have you ever ridden a bike?

"Oh look here comes a car across my path"
"I'd better use the brakes"
"if only I could somehow get my hands to press my brake lever"
"but I'm not an athlete. I have no hand eye co-ordination. I better crash and die"

This is why cycling was only invented last week and died out after the first ride.

idiots.

Look I even blogged about you: http://ladolcepeter.blogspot.com/2005/10/group-w-bench-sick-of-lance.html

This is my new favourite worst ever blog.
